Joe attended the 22nd annual TULSA SHOOTOUT at the end of December.  He competed in 3 classes:  Junior 2,  Junior Unrestricted, and the Junior Animal class.  It turned out to be one of the best races all year  next to winning the K.A.R.T. Nationals in the Animal Class.

First up was the Junior 2 class which had a total of 41 entries.  Joe ended up in the 1st heat for this class.  The draw was a disaster for the #101, drawing a #92 which put Joe last row outside of the first heat (only the top 3 transfer to the "A" main).  Joe did get up to third, but could not hold off #60 Thomas Liechti for the transfer spot.  Joe had to come through the consolation to get into the "A" main.  Joe started front row outside in the first consolation.  At the start, he got shuffled back to sixth and then started to work his way to the front.  With 5 laps to go, Joe made the lead and started to widen his lead when a kart spun in turn 4 and then another kart also spun in the same corner bringing out the caution.  They relined the field and Joe was again in the front of the pack.  He took the green flag and the white flag and ended up winning the "B"consolation. This would place him 8th row outside in the feature.  Joe had a great run, but ran out of laps and finished   8th in the Junior 2 feature.

Next up was the Junior Animal class.  Joe started 3rd row inside of his heat race.  When the green waved, Joe raced to the front and had the lead before they reached turn #1.  Joe continued to lead from green to checkered to take the win and it would  place him in the "A" main.  Joe started 2nd row inside in the "A", was running second for a couple laps, then got shuffled back to sixth.  Joe started to work his way back to the front but came up short.  Joe finished 3rd and was pleased with the outcome of this very competitive race.

Last up was the Unrestricted class.  This was a very fast race and the competition was even faster.  Joe started front row inside of his heat race.  When the green flag waved again, Joe went to the lead and continued to widen on lap 8.  Joe built up a large lead and took the checkered flag.  This heat race was the fastest of the 4 that were ran.  Joe started 2nd row inside of the "A" main.  Again Joe was running second for a few laps when he had trouble coming out of turn 2.  Joe was shuffled back to about 8th and continued to gain on the pack.  He caught the pack, but ran out of laps.  Joe finished a strong 5th and was happy with the finish.

Overall the 2007 TULSA SHOOTOUT was a great race to attend and the Bogdanovich Racing Team had it’s best results since competing there.  Of the 3 classes that Joe entered, he made the 'A" Main in all of them.  Joe won 2 heat races, took 4th in another heat race and won the consolation.  As for the features, Joe finished 3rd in the Junior Animal class, 5th in the Unrestricted class, and 8th in the Junior 2 class.  This was a great race to kick off the 2007 racing season and we all look forward to seeing what’s to come.

We would like to thank all of the people that made the 2007 TULSA SHOOTOUT so successful.  Our extreme gratitude goes to UNCLE FRANK’S 4 CYCLE RACING SPECIALISTS (Ralph Woodard, Lee Miller, Kevin Mulder, and Jeff Goodwin),  SWIGGART RACING (Brad Swiggart and Garrett Swiggart), BILL & JOE HILGER, and NICK BOGDANOVICH for all the help in making this race such a success.
